Brownlowe Messer

Waynesville-Brownlowe Graham Messer, age 94, formerly of Waynesville, died Saturday, November 13, 2004 at the Oaks of Sweeten Creek in Arden. He was a native of Haywood County and was the son of the late John Wilson and Hester Minerva Lowe Messer. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Edna Belle Messer, who died June 6, 2003, two grandsons, Lane and Keith Hunter, one brother, and three sisters. He was a retired pipe welder with Daniels Construction and Miller Plumbing. He was a US Navy veteran having served during WWII in the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Waynesville VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. He was a member of Barberville Baptist Church. He is survived by two daughters, Roslyn Hunter and her husband, Bob of Asheville, and Janice Bradley and her husband, Bill of Hendersonville; one son, Gene Wilson Messer and his wife, Marsha of Little Rock, Arkansas; one brother, Loyd Wilson Messer of Little Rock, Arkansas; six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at Barberville Baptist Church. The Reverend G. W. Jameson will officiate. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the VFW Post 5202 and the American Post 47. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, November 15, 2004, at Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Waynesville, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.
