Donald Bruce Browning, age 80, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2012 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late George and Nola Warren Browning. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, James "Jay" Browning and Harold Browning; a sister, Margaret Davis; and a granddaughter, Rachel Browning. He retired from Champion International in 1993 with 40 years of service and was a dedicated member of Riverside Baptist Church where he was involved with the Baptist Men's group. Bruce was an avid gardener and farmer. He enjoyed tending to his vegetable and flower gardens and was always a fixture at the Waynesville tailgate markets selling his locally grown produce and flowers. He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan P. Browning; a daughter, Donna Browning of Cornelius, NC; a son, Michael Browning; a twin sister, Ruth Sorrells; a sister, Maxine Sorrells; a brother, Roy Browning; a grandson, Clint Browning all of Bethel; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Steve Frazier and Reverend Jesse Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
