Bruce Chapman

Candler – Bruce Carroll Chapman, age 85, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at his residence. A native and Haywood County, he was the son of the late Charles and Birtie Cogdill Chapman. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Louise Stroupe Chapman, who died in 2006 and a son, Kevin Chapman, who died in 1997. He retired from Champion International with over 40 years of service and was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, member of the choir, and the Baptist wood carpentry ministry. In Bruce's life, he enjoyed many interests that included fishing, camping, square dancing, and he especially loved bluegrass music. A working passion of his life was tending his farm. He is survived by a daughter, Margaret Chapman of Candler; two sisters-in-law, Mary Rogers of Bethel and Ruby Taylor of Candler; and several nieces and nephews as well as their families. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 17, 2015 at Ridgeway Baptist Church with the Reverend Jack W. Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
