Bud Badgley

Waynesville-Bud Ludwick Badgley, age 79, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2006 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. Born on June 9, 1927 in Sardinia, OH, he was the son of the late Raymond and Hester Ludwick Badgley and was raised in Washington Court House, OH. He was also preceded in death by an infant son and one nephew. Upon graduation from high school, Bud entered the US Navy and served as a Seabee in the occupation forces in Japan. After moving to Miami, he was employed by Greyhound Bus Lines and Miami Welding Supply, from which he retired as Vice President of Operations. He was married to Marian Wells on July 20, 1963 and upon his retirement, he and Marian moved to Maggie Valley where they owned and operated "The Browse In Shoppe" selling sportswear clothes for men and women. He was a member of Sunrise Presbyterian Church of Miami Lakes, FL and attended Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Waynesville. Bud was an ardent golfer and traveler. He also enjoyed owning and racing thoroughbred horses while living in Florida. He is survived by his wife, Marian; a sister, Natasha Persi and her husband, Robert, of Cooper City, FL; a niece, Monique Cicarelli, and family of Davie, FL; and Godson, Wade Smith, of Brighton, CO. He is also survived by his extended family, Gregory Smith of Brighton, CO, Scott Smith of Cheyenne, WY, and Mary Catherine Perry of Denver, CO; and his special dog, Lucky. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at Shady Grove United Methodist Church with the Reverend J. Linwood Kennedy officiating. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
