Buford Farley

Waynesville, Buford Jess Farley, 87, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A native of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Jess James and Cora Gibson Farley. He was a US Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. Buford was a man of many talents. A self-taught sign painter, he owned and operated Farley Signs, and his hand-painted signage can be seen in many areas of Haywood and Jackson Counties. Buford was also an avid antique car collector. He modified several VWs and built race cars for his son to race at Asheville Speedway. A fan of racing, he enjoyed racing well into his 50's. Buford was a loving and caring husband, father and "Pap" and was a member of Ninevah Baptist Church. Buford is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patsy Farley; a son, Michael Keith Farley, of Sylva and stepson, Michael Parris and his wife, Phyllis, of Waynesville; a brother, Bobby Joe Farley and wife, Wanda, of Sylva; grandchildren, Cody Parris and Brian Parris and his wife, Brandy; one great-grandchild, Megan Parris; and a nephew, Steve Farley. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Leslie officiating. Burial will follow at private family cemetery in Jackson County. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
