Burl Russell

Calion, Arkansas, Burl Derek (Bulldog) Russell, age 42, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. A native of Haywood County, he was preceded by his father, Hugh Thomas Russell, Jr.; maternal grandmother, Ruby Nichols; and grandparents, Hugh Sr. and Annie Russell. (Bulldog) was a certified industrial pipe fitter. He enjoyed riding Harleys, listening to country music, and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Rene Russell; parents, Brenda and James Franklin of Waynesville; five sisters, Lurissia Hendrix, Cherie Buchanan and her husband, David, Letitia Faulkner and her special friend Scott Bailey, and Amy Presnell, all of Waynesville and Paula Russell of Florida; aunt, Mildred Mease of Canton; uncle, Vernon Russell and his wife, Katie, of Clyde; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2011 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service at the Mountaineer Restaurant 6490 Soco Road, Maggie Valley, NC.
