C. Owen

C.S. (Rock) Owen, age 83, of Rhoda Street, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native of Canton, he was a son of the late Carl and Pauline Emerson Owen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Dennis and one brother, Bobby Joe Owen. C.S. was a graduate of Canton High School and of Bowling Green University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was employed for 37 years at Champion Papers in office services and employee relations. Following his retirement, he was a part – time employee at Springdale Country Club. He was a member of Canton First Baptist Church where he was an usher and long time member of the benevolence committee. He was past chairman of the Canton ABC Board. C.S. was a member of the Canton zoning committee and the board of directors of Mountain View / Lake View Housing. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II and was a member of the Varner Rinehart Post #61 of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth White "Ebby" Owen; one daughter, Carla Allen and her husband, Tod, of Raleigh; one sister, Frankie Ann Milner of Asheville; one brother, Bill Owen of Canton; and two grandchildren, Parker and Molly Allen. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, August 2, 2008 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Dick Maples officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
