Roanoke, Virginia - C. Christopher Pressley died on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at his home. Chris was born on November 21, 1966 in Charlotte, North Carolina and spent most of his childhood in the Asheville, North Carolina area where he graduated from Asheville High School in 1984. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Duke University in1989. After graduation he worked in New York City as a banker. Several years later he realized his childhood dreams of pursuing a career in medicine and becoming an airplane pilot. He attended the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and completed his residency at Johns Hopkins University. In 2003 Chris moved to Roanoke, VA to practice with ACV Incorporated. The surrounding mountains reminded him of his boyhood home. He loved running, the outdoors, flying his airplane and spending time with his family, especially at their land in Craig County. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charlie and Hilda Woodard and Ray and Neva Pressley. Chris is survived by his wife, Ami Trowell Pressley, and daughters Madeleine (11), Sarah (9) and Audrey (6) of Roanoke, his mother Nan Burch and stepfather Michael Burch of Asheville, NC, his father and stepmother, Charles and Barbara Pressley of Burlington, NC, his sister Laurie and her husband Brian Moriarty and his nephews Connor (11) and Ian (9) Moriarty of Charlottesville, VA. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the Metropolitan Community Church in Virginia. A private burial will be held at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park in Waynesville, NC. The family requests that memorial donations be made in his name to The National Alliance on Mental Illness (www.nami.org) or a mental health charity of your choice.
