Waynesville, Calvin Ray Russell, age 55, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013 at his residence. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of Louise Hunter Russell and the late Charles Safford Russell. He retired from Canton Hardwood with 32 years service as a Forester. Calvin loved the Lord and was a member of Camp Branch Free Will Baptist Church. He had a heart of gold and enjoyed fishing, hunting and being with his family. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Marion Russell of Waynesville; a sister, Elva Woody and her husband, Claude, of Waynesville; a brother Albert Russell of Waynesville; one grandson; a very special aunt, Ruth Hunter Finger, whom he adored; a special friend, Bonnie Sutton; several nieces and nephews and Calvin's special dog, Molly. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Duke and Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Tracy Cambell, Tommy and Terry Finger, Steve Phillips, Ray Bright, Ronnie McElroy, Levi and Arnold Duffield. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at Calvin's residence, 110 Pot Leg Road, Waynesville.
