Caney Kilby

CANEY R. KILBY

Waynesville-Caney Ray Kilby, age 65, of Playground Court, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native of Raybun County, Georgia, he had been a resident of Haywood County since 1952. He was the son of the late Caney Jackson and Beulah Frady Kilby. He was a 47-year employee of the Waynesville Country Club and had served as golf course superintendent since 1969. He was a member of the Golf Course Superintendent's Association of America, the Carolinas Golf Course Superintendent's Association, and was a founding member of the WNC Turf Grass Association. He was also a former member of the Hazelwood Boosters Club.

He is a survived by his wife of 44 years, Louella Robinson Kilby; two sons, Stephen Ray Kilby of Waynesville and Jimmy D. Kilby and his wife, Judy, of Hendersonville; one sister, Zanie Cook, and her husband, Earl, of Waynesville; two brothers, Delo Kilby, and his wife, Dorothy, of Clayton, Georgia, and Ronald Kilby of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Kara, Lauren, and Andrew Kilby.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2003 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverends Kenny and Marty Kilby officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2003 at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Kenneth, Keith, and Justin Cook, and Scott, Tommy, Sammy, and Brian Kilby.
