Carl Bridges

Clyde- Carl Bridges, age 83, died Thursday, March 8, 2007 at his residence. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Richmond and Nannie Raby Bridges. He had previously lived in Eugene, Oregon for 35 years before returning to Haywood County in 1987. Mr. Bridges was preceded in death by two wives, Thelma Bridges and Esther Bridges, a daughter, Nan Watson, daughter in-law, Connie Bridges and two sisters, Hazel Bridges, and Ruth Wood. He retired as a mechanic from the state of Oregon. He was a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church and served as a deacon at Richland Baptist Church in Waynesville. He was an honorary member of the North American Fishing and Hunting Club and Lane Company Ridge Riders Club in Eugene, Oregon. Mr. Bridges raised horses and was an avid hunter. He is survived by his wife of 3 years, Betty Hooper Bridges; two daughters, Linda Querry, and her husband Reverend Charles Querry of Las Vegas, NV, Margaret Eisenburg and her husband, Hal of Eugene, Oregon; two step-daughters, Nancy Webb and her husband Marshall, of Mooresville, NC, Mary Plemmons and her husband James, of LaPorte, TX; three sons, Melvin Bridges, of Mesa, AZ, Jimmy Bridges and his wife, Debbie of Pasco, WA and Kenny Bridges and his wife, Donita of Cottage Grove, Oregon; one stepson, Jerry Rhinehart and his wife Kay of Clyde; two sisters, Mildred Burnette of Canton and Dorothy Galloway of Waynesville, one brother, Lloyd Bridges and his wife Sandy of Bryson City, 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Calvary Road Baptist Church with the Reverend J. D. Grant and Reverend Darrell Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 77 Sutton Loop, Waynesville, NC 28786
