Carl Bryant

Carl Truman Bryant answered the Master’s call, and transitioned to his heavenly home on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was 79 years old.

Carl was born on July 11, 1945, in Waynesville, North Carolina, to the late Dexter Hettylee Sr. and Inez Banks Bryant. He was the youngest of the Bryant siblings. Carl was proceeded in death by his sister, Jacqueline “Toots” Bryant; and three brothers, Dexter Jr., James, and Richard (Jackie) Bryant.

Carl was educated in the Haywood County School System, graduating from Reynolds High School in 1963. He was blessed with the God given talent of being able to play many instruments. What made his talent even more special, was the fact that he did not read music, and “played by ear”. He was a part of the Reynolds High School Tiger Marching Band, where he played the trumpet. When he accepted Christ, he became a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where on many Sundays, he would be accompanying the choir on the organ. Many people will never forget how Carl could make an organ sound as if it were speaking to you.

Carl was an avid outdoorsman! He spent many hours doing three things: fishing, hunting, and playing golf. He was known to make his own bullets, as well as his own arrows when he bow hunted. Carl also made custom golf clubs for himself and others.

Carl was employed by Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort as a security officer until his health began to decline.

Left to cherish his memories are his two daughters, Rashida Bryant and Aisha Bryant; one brother, Thomas “Boogie” Bryant; hunting and fishing buddy, John Mull; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 1:00 pm, in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Walter S. Bryson officiating. A repass will be held at the conclusion of the service in the Wells Event and Reception Center.

The care of Mr. Bryant has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. An online memorial register is available at “Obituaries” at www.wellsfuneralhome.com.
