Carl Cook

Waynesville, Reverend Carl Worth Cook, age 96, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at The Homestead. A native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, he lived most of his life in Haywood County. He was the son of the late John W. and Lucille Parton Cook. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Rhodarmer Cook, who died in 2014; a daughter, June Lavone Cook; one sister, Hazel Caldwell; and three brothers, Jack, Ned and David Cook. In Carl's career of ministry, he served many churches throughout Haywood County and western North Carolina. He was a caring and compassionate man whose soft spoken voice and demeanor was a comfort to those whom he ministered to. Carl's family was very unique. His daughter was born with multiple birth defects, and Carl and his wife, Gladys were told that their daughter would only live three days. However, a miracle of God was in the making. With faith, love and selfless devotion, Carl and Gladys brought their daughter home and gave the unconditional love and attention that allowed June to live to be 52 years old. Carl and Gladys redefined the words, dedication, selflessness and love for a child with many disabilities. Those who knew them were blessed and truly touched by their devotion and Christian faith. Without question, Carl is with his Heavenly Father where his family circle will never be unbroken. Carl is survived by a sister, Madge Livingston, of Waynesville as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2015 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Phillip Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
