Waynesville-James Carl Gibson, age 94, formerly of Inman Branch Road, died Saturday, December 27, 2003 at the Brian Center of Waynesville.
He was a native of Haywood County and was the son of the late Montie Raymond and Bessie Smith Gibson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Julia Inman Gibson, who died in 1992, and by a grandson, Billy Carpenter.
He retired from Champion Paper in 1974 after 28 years of service. He was an Army veteran having served during WWII. He was a member of Burnette Siding Baptist Church.
He is survived by six daughters, Geraldine Beck of Elkin, NC, Velvet Conard and her husband, Jerry of Waynesville, Shirley Reece and her husband, Ray of Waynesville, Linda Woods and her husband, Gene of Canton, Vicky Matthews of Waynesville, and Kathy Burgess and her husband, Ed of Clyde; his sister, Parthynia Pressley of Canton, his brother, Raymond Gibson of Fredricksburg, Virginia; 26 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes. The Reverend T. M. Gibson and Reverend Eddie Parker will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the services, at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Velvet and Jerry Conard on Inman Branch Road in Waynesville.
The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
