Waynesville, Carl Rogers, age 92, of Sims Circle died on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Erastus and Dora Cook Rogers. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Medford Rogers, who died in 2002; a daughter, Margaret Rogers; four sisters, Daisy Thompson, Agnes Trantham, Faye Ledford, and Myrtle Rice; four brothers, Horace, DeWitt, Buddy, and Odell Rogers. Carl was employed as an office clerk for the North Carolina Department of Transportation, retiring after 30 years service. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Lake Junaluska and the Adult Sunday-School Class. He is survived by two sons, Roy Rogers, of Waynesville and Claude Rogers and wife, Susan, of the Fines Creek Community; one sister, Hazel Thompson of Clyde; four grandchildren, Reverend Bobby Rogers and wife, Rhonda, Steven Rogers and wife, Lori, Angela Rogers and special friend, Shane Reece, and Amy Messer and husband, Keith; and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2009 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Bobby Rogers and Reverend Barry Willett officiating. Burial will follow at Dawn Memory Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Steven and Tyler Rogers, Keith Messer, Hugh Allison, A. J. Brown, and Joe Ledford. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny, Danny, and Euzell Rogers and Marshall Haney. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. on Friday prior to the services at the funeral home and at other times, at the residence, 80 Sims Circle.
