Carlene Mathis

Carlene "Cotton" West Mathis, age 82, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2011 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Carl M. and Mila Phillips West. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Lee "Ern" Mathis, who died in 2004; a sister, Thelma Scruggs; and a brother, Fredrick West. Cotton was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn McCracken and her husband, Bob, and Patty Lindsey and her husband, Gary, all of Clyde; one son, Alan Mathis and his wife, Denise, of Waynesville; one sister, Edith Henson and her husband, Bill, of Canton; three grandchildren, Missy Redditt, Stacy and Wesley Lindsey; two step-grandchildren, David and Daniel Tripp; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler Redditt, Karl and Evan Lindsey. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Spring Hill Baptist Church with the Reverend Brad Joyner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church and on Wednesday at the residence.
