Carlos Monroe Free, age 82, of the Bethel Community passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Mission Hospitals – St Josephs Campus. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Samuel Esau and Cora Williams Free. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Grogan who died in 2010, a granddaughter, Deanna Free who died in 1993; four sisters; and three brothers. He retired in 1990 from Champion International with 39 ½ years of service and was a dedicated member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Carlos loved life and lived every moment to the fullest. He was a United States Army veteran serving in Korea. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Frances Free; two sons, Dean Free and his wife, Lisa, of Anderson, Alabama and Roger Free and his wife, Sharon, of Canton; a brother, Ed Free and his wife, Nancy, of Canton; two grandchildren, Anthony Free and Amanda Edwards and her husband, Scott; six great grandsons and two great granddaughters; son-in-law, Bill Grogan and his wife, Pat; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Perry Brindley and Reverend Heath Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Pallbearers will be Anthony Free, David Messer, Will Warren, David Raye, Derrick Faulkner, and Nathaniel Grunwell. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Carter Pressley and the Mount Zion Baptist Church Senior Adult Men's Sunday School Class. Memorials may be made to Mt.
