Carol Paxton

Carol Chapman Paxton passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2010, at the John F. Keever Jr. Solace Center, after a courageous seven year battle with leukemia. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of Evelyn King Chapman and the late Leon Chapman. Carol graduated in 1976 from AB Tech with an Associates Degree; in 1980, a Bachelors in Business; in 1984, an M.B.A.; and in 1994, a Masters in Education all from Western Carolina University. Carol was a Computer's Technology instructor for 25 years. She taught for 15 years at Haywood Community College and 10 years at AB Tech. She was also an advisor to Phi Beta Lambda, the Future Business Leaders student organization. Carol was a member of the Bald Head Island Conservancy. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Phil Paxton; a sister, Ruth Cannon; a brother David Chapman; close friend, Richard Hensley; an exceptionally devoted caregiver and friend of 30 years, Janet Moss Wilson; her lifetime friend, Kathy Wyatt Price; and a Godson, Jonathan Wilson. The family would like to express a very sincere thanks to the entire staff of John F. Keever Jr. Solace Center. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Morning Star United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College Foundation for the Carol Paxton Business Computer Technology Scholarship, 340 Victoria Road, Asheville, NC 28801.
