Carole Smith

Waynesville, Carole Rathbone Smith, age 62, of Welcome Lane, passed away unexpectedly Friday, September 12, 2008 at her residence. She went to meet the Lord and reunite with her daddy and sister. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the daughter of the late Frank Charles Rathbone. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Peggy Buchanan. Carole was employed by Haywood Regional Medical Center for 23 years retiring in 1991 and was a member of Crestview Baptist Church. She loved her grandchildren and they were the light of her life. Carole is survived by her husband of 32 years, Terry Smith; her mother, Louise Rathbone; two daughters, Angela Rogers and her fiancé, Shane of Waynesville and Amy Messer and her husband, Keith of Canton; a brother, Stan Rathbone and his wife, Shirley of Waynesville and three grandchildren, Dylan Waser, Braxton and Sydney Messer. She will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2008 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Ensley officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
