Carolilne Acerenza

August 18, 1930 — January 31, 2010

Waynesville, Caroline C. Acerenza, age 79, formerly of Wood Ammons Road in Mars Hill, died on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at the Brian Center. A native of Dearborn, Michigan, she had resided in Haywood County for the past two years. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Caroline Lane Clennan. Caroline was raised by her stepmother, Marcella R. Clennan, following the death of her mother. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Louis Acerenza, who died in 2008; two brothers, two sisters, one grandson, Brian McMillan and one granddaughter, Colleen McMillan. Caroline was a caregiver for Alzheimer's patients and enjoyed gardening, homemaking, and grandchildren. She enjoyed reading biographies and autobiographies. She would critique the books and send them to the author. She is survived by four sons, David McMillan and his wife, Lena, of Waynesville, Tom McMillan and his wife, Gillian, of Whittier, NC, Lou Acerenza and his wife, Donna, of Long Island, NY, and Mark Acerenza and his wife, Debra, of Frederick, MD; one daughter, Patty Meagher, of Washington, DC; one sister, Mary Ellen Quillian, of Atlanta, GA; eleven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. A mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at St. John's Catholic Church with Father Larry LoMonaco officiating. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society-NC Chapter, 1 Southern Pines Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28273 or the Alzheimer's Association, 31 College Place, Suite D320, Asheville, NC 28801.
