Carolyn Jane Thomas Cheek, a devoted homemaker, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at her home in Haywood County. She was born on August 12, 1945, in Swain County, North Carolina.
Carolyn's life was one filled with love, care, and dedication to her family. Her nurturing spirit and warm presence made her a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. While she may have been a homemaker by profession, her true role was that of the heart and soul of her family.
Born to Theodore and Vergie Stalcup Thomas, Carolyn grew up surrounded by love and support from her parents and siblings. She shared many cherished memories with them before they preceded her in death. Carolyn's four sisters and one brother all held a special place in her heart.
It was through the bonds of marriage that Carolyn found the love of her life – Bobby Cheek. For 61 beautiful years, they shared an unbreakable partnership that set an example for all those who knew them. Carolyn's unwavering commitment to Bobby was evident in every action she took throughout their remarkable journey together.
Carolyn is survived by a daughter, Cindy Brown and her husband Eric, of Canton; a son, David Cheek and his wife Sandy, of Clyde; Carolyn poured her heart into motherhood and delighted in witnessing each milestone achieved by Cindy and David. Her love for them knew no bounds as she offered endless guidance, support, and unconditional love.
Family meant everything to Carolyn. She treasured the time spent with her four grandchildren: Ashley Smart and her husband Wes, Adam Cheek, McKinley Brown, and Trail Brown. Their laughter filled her heart with joy as she watched them grow into exceptional individuals. The arrival of two great-twin-grandchildren named Millie and Ellis Smart brought an abundance of delight into Carolyn's life. Many fond memories remain for her beloved sister, Alethea Mae Smith and her family. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: June, Marty, Darryl, Tammie, Alan, Ted, Kay, and Timmy.
Carolyn's impact extended beyond the walls of her home and reached into her community. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer a listening ear, or provide words of comfort to those in need. Carolyn's kindness and compassion touched numerous lives and left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church of Canton.
