Carolyn Harkins

Carolyn Medford Harkins, age 80, of Possum Ridge Road died on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at her residence. Born on March 11, 1929, in Haywood County, she was the wife of Roy Harkins and the daughter of the late John and Clara Medford. She is also preceded in death by three sisters and a brother, Ann Medford, Doris Bullock, Frances Saylor, and Boyce Medford. She was a graduate of Bethel High School. Carolyn was employed with Champion Paper for 40 years. She was a member of Long's United Methodist Church where she played the organ for 64 years. She enjoyed gardening her beautiful roses and visiting shut-ins and baking pies. She is survived by three sisters, Betty Aides of Jacksonville, FL, Lucy Turner and Ruth Anders both of Battlecreek, MI; and a brother, Boyd Medford of Canton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday; December 27, 2009, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Gerald T. Denham officiating. Burial will follow at Long's Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, December 26, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721 or to Long's United Methodist Church, 1097 Coffee Branch Road, Canton, NC 28716.
