Carolyn Holcomb's purpose on earth, having been fulfilled, was called Saturday, April 30, 2005 to walk among the angels. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the daughter of Genevieve Roberts and the late Richard L. Roberts. During Carolyn's lifetime, she touched many lives. Carolyn taught school at Beaverdam and Patton Elementary Schools, and Pisgah High School. She was director of Human Resources Development at Haywood Community College for nearly twenty years. Most recently, Carolyn was employed at Hope - A Women's Cancer Center, developing Hands of Faith, a cancer patient service ministry. Above all, Carolyn's true passion was her family and their interests and activities. In addition to her mother, Carolyn is survived by Bob Holcomb, her husband of forty-seven years, a brother Doug Roberts and his wife El of Canton, her daughters, Cynthia Sellinger, and her husband Howard of Candler, and Amy Trantham and her husband Jeff of Candler, and her grandchildren Rachel and Hunter Sellinger, Courtney Devlin, and Brennan and Blake Trantham. Family and friends will gather Tuesday, May 3 at 2:00 p.m. at Canton Central United Methodist Church fellowship hall for a celebration of Carolyn's life. After light refreshments, a service will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. Internment and ascension services will follow the service at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, it is requested donations be made to Hands of Faith, Hope Cancer Center, PO BOX 16948, Asheville, NC. 28816.
