Clyde, Carolyn M. Kastl, age 87, of Oak Ridge Drive, died on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Portage, Michigan, she had lived in several other states before moving back to Portage later in life. She had resided in Haywood County for the past 13 years. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary Simons Bill. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Charles L. Kastl; one granddaughter, Karen Silverthorne; four sisters; and one brother. She was a member of Clyde Central United Methodist Church where she was active until her declining health left her homebound. Over the years, Carolyn was active in her churches and taught Sunday School. She was an American Red Cross volunteer and belonged to Home Economics for 35 years and was also a member of the Garden Club. She is survived by her son, Charles L. Kastl, Jr. and his wife, Jeannie, of Albany, Oregon; her daughter, Carolee Silverthorne and her husband, Grady, of Clyde; and two grandchildren, David Kastl and Laura Cunningham and her husband, Kevin. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Clyde Central United Methodist Church with Reverend Randy Tingle and Reverend James Hart officiating. Private inurnment will be at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Clyde Central United Methodist Church General Fund, P.O. Box 8, Clyde, NC 28721.
