Carolyn Morgan Swayngim, age 71, died Thursday, September 24, 2009, at Mission Hospitals Memorial Campus. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Farrell and Ethel King Morgan. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Charles Glenn Swayngim, Jr., and a grandson, Jeremiah Morgan Jones; a niece, Deanna Marie Odum ; two nephews, Donald James Odum and Steven R. Swayngim; and two brother-in-laws, Bascomb Thompson and Robert Swayngim. She was a retired employee of Akzo Nobel, formerly American Enka Company with 40 years of service. She was a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Candler. She is survived by a daughter Joanna S. Jones and her husband, Chris, of Candler; two grandchildren, Charles and Portia Jones, who were and always will be the light of her life; two adopted granddaughters, Brooke Roberts and Carmon Jones; a very special daughter, Stephanie W. Fincham and her family; her beloved sisters, Maxine Thompson; Doris Odum and her husband, James, and Linda Taylor and her husband, John; her sister-in-law, Mary C. Swayngim; and eight nieces and nephews, whom she considered her own, Allen Crowe, Daryl Crowe, Donna T. Teague, Debra Thompson, Nancy T. Hodge, Robert Taylor, Doug Swayngim, and Dana O. Haney; and 12 great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2009, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with the Reverend Phillip Hurst and Reverend Keith Holcombe officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
