Carrie Mae Long, age 79, died Monday, July 14, 2008 at her residence. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Grady Bryant and Lois Whitted Williamson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and James Williamson. Carrie Mae was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary # 5202 and a 20 year member of the American Legion #47 Auxiliary. She loved traveling with her friends from the auxiliary. Having limited mobility for the last few years, she really enjoyed talking on the phone with her friends and very much looked forward to and appreciated those calls. Carrie Mae was an avid fan of both Pisgah and Tuscola football. She was one of the most loving and giving people and will be missed greatly. She is survived by one son, Danny L. Long and his wife, Mi-Young, of Round Rock, TX; two nieces, Michelle Ashe and her husband, Mike, of Waynesville, and Lillie Ellen Bailey and her husband, Larry, of Napier, WV; four grandchildren, Rachel, Asher, Audrey, and Truman Long; a long time caregiver, Delcie Welker of Canton and Delcie's daughter, Hayley Welker. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2008 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Mark Golden officiating. Burial will follow in Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on the Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Phillip Caldwell, Mike Ashe, Larry Bailey, Bruce McElroy, Steve Stamey and Butch Knight. Honorary pallbearer will be Tommy Burgess. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
