Carroll Burris

August 12, 1940 — May 25, 2013

Waynesville, Carroll Lyle Burris, age 72, of Hendrix Street, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at MedWest Haywood. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Ferrell and Vinnas Mashburn Burris and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Kelly Burris. Carroll retired from Dayco's Shipping Department with 36-years service. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed fishing and auto racing. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marie Ashe Burris; a son, Steve Burris and his wife, Tonya, of Waynesville; and two grandchildren, Julie Burris, of Raleigh, and Stephanie Burris, of Waynesville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 27, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Mark Golden and Reverend Mark Tice officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Harold Chambers, David Marcus, Tommy Carswell, Richard Towe, Charlie Mills, Craig Cable, Cody Cable, and Sid McCall. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Miller, Skip Holland, and Jim Rockett. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services.
