Carroll Holcombe

Carroll H. Holcombe, age 78, of Morning Star Road died Saturday, April 18, 2009, at the V A Medical Center in Asheville. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Henry and Daisy Miller Holcombe. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Eva Holcombe, who died in 2005 and a granddaughter, Carolyn Sue Holcombe. He was a member of Dutch Cove Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Perry Alexander Construction, Taylor and Murphy Construction, and Charlie Banks Construction. He was a United States Army veteran serving in Korea. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Gaddy Holcombe; four sons, Ronald Holcombe and his wife, Marquietta, Danny Holcombe, Togie Holcombe and his wife, Vickie, and Donald Holcombe and his wife, Denise, all of Canton; four sisters, Ellen Warren of Canton, Lucille Parham of Leicester, Mary Webb of Black Mountain, and Shirley Rogers of Waynesville; two brothers, Charles Holcombe of Canton and James Holcombe of Maggie Valley; 11 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2009, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with the Reverend Ed Lowder, Reverend Jessie Hollingsworth, and Reverend Frank Cantrell officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
