Carroll Fain Pless, age 81, of 728 Reed Cove Road, died Saturday, October 21, 2006. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the son of the late Charles and Ada Rogers Pless. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Hillard Pless, Edward Pless and Carl Pless. He retired from Champion International in 1985 after 42 years with the company. He was a member of Morning Star Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school and was the leader of the grounds committee. He led mission trips throughout the United States and Caribbean. He was a charter member of the Haywood County Rescue Squad, a scout leader with the Boy Scouts, and loved hunting and fishing. He was also a Navy veteran, having served in World War II. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Peggy Pless; a son, David and his wife, Genean, of Waynesville; a daughter, Linda Cope and her husband, J.R., of Waynesville; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at Morning Star United Methodist Church with the Reverend Doug Love officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Morning Star United Methodist Church Improvement Fund, 2535 Dutch Cove Road, Canton, NC 28716 or Habitat for Humanity of Haywood County, 122 South Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
