Carroll Watson

James Carroll "Doc" Watson, age 79, died on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Bazz and Ada Shephard Watson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, George Watson and three sisters, Geneva Pressley, Hilda Trull, and Berlyn Singleton. He retired from Champion International with 39 years of service. He was a member of West Canton Baptist Church and a volunteer at the Haywood Baptist Association. He was an active member of the class of 1953 reunions. Carroll had a fondness for Russia. He traveled to Romania and Russia admiring the architecture and culture and was also very active with Folkmoot USA. He was a United States Army veteran serving in Korea. He is survived by a brother, Howard Watson and his wife, Della, of Canton; several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2011, at Rocky Branch Cemetery with the Reverend Chris Willett officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Memorials may be made to the Haywood Baptist Association, P.O. Box 628, Clyde, NC 28721.
