Carter Lee "Bud" Rhinehart, Jr., age 80, died Friday, December 29, 2006, at John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville. He was a native of Haywood County and the son of the late Col. Carter Lee and Mrs. Mary Lucia Pegram Rhinehart of Canton. He was the grandson of the late Dr. and Mrs. Robert W. S. Pegram of Wilkes County and Canton and Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin F. Rhinehart of Clyde. Dr. Pegram was a highly respected early twentieth century physician serving Canton and Haywood County for many years. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert L. Rhinehart of Burnsville. He graduated from Canton High School in 1943. In 1950 he graduated with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration from the Kenan Flagler School of Business at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving from 1944 to 1946 in the South Pacific and stationed on the island of Guam. His career included work at Glen Raven Mill in Burnsville, General Electric in Hendersonville and Champion International in Canton where he retired in 1988 as manager of the Production Control Department. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Canton where he was a former deacon, Sunday School teacher and member of various committees. He was a member of the Bishop Sunday School class. He had a great love for nature and the outdoors, and he especially enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking, boating and traveling both in the United States and abroad. He was survived by his wife of 53 years, Judith Patton Rhinehart; sister-in-law, Matoka Rhinehart of Burnsville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Joyce Patton of Canton; two nephews and a niece. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at Canton First Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Rick Gosnell officiating. Burial will be at Old Bon-A-Venture Cemetery in Clyde at a later date. The family will receive friends following the service.
