Caryl McIntosh Pepin, 74, of Black Mountain, passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Savior on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Chunns Cove Assisted Living Asheville, after an 8 year battle with vascular dementia.
She was born in Chicago Heights, IL on Valentine's Day, to the late Carl and Florence McIntosh. Caryl attended Bradley University in Peoria, IL where she met her husband and graduated from North Central College in Naperville, IL with a degree in Biology. Besides devoting her life to her family, she was also a braille transcriber, special education teacher, pianist, vocalist, artist, gardener, nature lover, animal rescue advocate and an avid beachgoer. She held several positions as church secretary, worked for a non-profit guardianship organization, and executive administrator for an attorney. However, one of her favorite positions was Guest Services at the Biltmore Estate Winery. In later years, she assisted her husband, Ron, at Town Hardware in Black Mountain.
Caryl is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ronald W. Pepin; son, Mark Pepin and wife, Cathy; daughter, Janet Schallhorn and husband, Jon, all of Black Mountain; brother, Gerald L. McIntosh and wife, Marjorie of Naperville, IL; brother, Alan W. McIntosh and his wife, Barbara of Shelburne, VT; 3 grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
