Maggie Valley-Catherine Moody McCrary, age 83, of Timberline Drive, died on Friday, November 17, 2006 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late H. Grady and Cora Parks Moody. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Moody Schmersahl and Margaret Moody Owens; five brothers, Hugh A., Fred B., Jack P., "Dick," and James Roy Moody. Catherine and her husband, Sam, owned and operated the Maggie County Store for 32 years. She was a member of Dellwood United Methodist Church where she taught Kindergarten classes, sang in the choir, and was an active member of the Methodist Women. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Sam E. McCrary; two daughters, Karen Holt and her husband, Richie, of Waynesville and Anita Franklin and her husband, John, of Tulsa, OK; seven grandchildren, Christopher and Travis Holt, Brad, Kerri, Samantha and Jeff Franklin and his wife, Gabriella, and Jennifer Coggins and her husband, Craig Tamble; and one great granddaughter, Sofia Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 19, 2006 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jeremy Troxler officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. A private family interment will be held prior to the service at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Memorials should be made to the Haywood County Schools Foundation, 1230 North Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28786 for the benefit of the Hazelwood Elementary Kindergartens.
