"1924 - 2017"

Asheville - Rachael Catherine Worley Messer, 93, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center.

A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Ira A. and Annie Mae Wilson Worley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Hardin Messer, who died in 2006; four sisters; and seven brothers. Catherine graduated from Canton High School and was a member of Starnes Cove Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting.

She is survived by two daughters, Doris Hardin of Asheville and Barbara Moody (Philip) of Troy; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Hyde of Canton; four grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Starnes Cove Baptist Church with the Reverend Charlie Sams and Reverend Jerry Worley officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
