Catherine Trull

Candler- Catherine Smathers Trull died Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center in Candler. She was born on November 4, 1920, in Andrews, NC, to Charles Crawford Smathers and Ruby Belle Webb Smathers. She grew up in Canton, NC, and was a graduate of Canton High School. On May 23, 1942, she married W. Jay Trull who was from the Bethel area of Haywood County. He died on May 23, 1987. Mrs. Trull lived for over fifty years in the Haw Creek area of Asheville where she was involved in community activities including managing the concession stand at Williams Field which was the forerunner to what is now the East Asheville Community ball field. She enjoyed ceramics and gardening. She was a bookkeeper and retired from Miller's Grocery in Haw Creek. She also was employed many years at McKinney Welding Supply. Mrs. Trull resided at Pisgah Villas Assisted Living for three years. She then moved to Pisgah Manor Health Care Center. She was an active member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, having held many offices and was a member of the choir. Most recently she enjoyed the fellowship with Snow Hill United Methodist Church in Candler. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Gary Warren, of Candler; one son, Bill Trull of Asheville; three grandchildren, Drew Warren of Candler, Lindsey Warren Jocks and her husband, Tom Jocks, of Oberlin, Ohio, and Jay H. Trull, of Asheville and St. Petersburg, Florida; one brother and sister-in-law, Webb and Maxine Smathers, of Canton; two sisters, Mary Cook of Oteen and Ruby McKinney and her husband, Raymond, of Asheville. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 1, 2006 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Swift officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Baby Equipment Loan Closet at Snow Hill United Methodist Church, 84 Snow Hill Church Road, Candler, NC 28715 or to Care Partners (formerly Mountain Area Hospice), 68 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
