Waynesville-Catherine Clark Whelchel, 78, of 115 White Dogwood Lane, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2006 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Macon, GA, and a long-time resident of Sanford, FL. She was the daughter of the late John and Lillian Clark. She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard Whelchel, who died in 1992 and one son, Steven in 1975. She was a Kindergarten teacher for Seminole County School District, a member of Longs Chapel United Methodist Church, active in Delta Kappa Gamma Professional Sorority, PIE of Teachers, Garden Club of Waynesville, and United Methodist Women of Longs Chapel, and she was known for her love of music. She is survived by one daughter, Kate Stewart, and her husband, Dennis, of Athens, GA; two sons, Howard Whelchel Jr, and his wife Trish, of Leesburg, FL, James Whelchel, of Lake Junaluska and his wife Ellen Stoffer, of Baltimore, MD; one sister, Louise Kranzberg, of Atlanta, GA, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at Longs Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Rob Fuquay officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
