Clyde – Cecil “Zeke” Hannah, 74, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at his residence.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Virgil Homer and Effie Matilda Smith Hannah. Zeke was a United States Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War. He was a fan of the Washington Redskins, New York Yankees and Carolina Tarheels. Zeke was a very dedicated fan of Pisgah football and Pisgah girls’ softball teams. He received the Dr. Al Cline award and was a youth mite football superbowl coach, and district youth football commissioner of Clyde and Canton.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shelia Phillips Hannah; one daughter, Erica Hannah of Maggie Valley; a son, Mark Hannah and his partner, Dr. Scott Parry, of Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters, Sara Warren (Ray) of Clyde and Helen Levi (Foy) of Zirconia; one brother, Cliff Hannah (Donna) of Pennsylvania; one half brother, Walt Leatherwood (Hilda) of Canton; one grandchild, Kameron Vaughn; and two grand dogs, George and Gunter.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2019 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Kenneth Rhinehart officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pisgah High School Athletic Department, No. 1 Black Bear Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
