"Proud US Army Veteran" Canton – Cecil Andrew Patton, Sr., age 88, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mildred Shope Patton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Cecil was a man who was committed to his country and his community. He served proudly for over 30 years in the United States Army retiring honorably. Cecil cared deeply for other veterans, always willing to help them in any way possible and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Canton VFW Post 5198 and American Legion Post 61. Helping his community was important to him as well; he was a dedicated member of the Canton Kiwanis Club, help organize the first Santa Pal project and was a devoted member of Canton First Baptist Church. He is survived by a son, Cecil Patton, Jr. and his wife, Marsha, of Canton; two sisters, Pauline Russell of Waynesville and Mary Alice Patton of Clyde; a brother, Orrie Patton of Waynesville; and three grandchildren, Martika, Angela and Timothy Patton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Kevin McDaniel officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the United States Army. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
