Cecilia Champagne

Maggie Valley, Cecilia Champagne, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Autumn Care of Waynesville. Cecilia was born in Mt. Olive Illinois, and had resided in South Florida and Detroit Michigan prior to moving to Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Mike and Mary Chesmier Florian. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas James Champagne, who died in 1996. Cecilia worked many years as an Executive for DT&I Railroad in Detroit, MI; she loved bowling and was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church. She is survived by a son, Byron Champagne and his wife, Linda, of Jupiter, Florida; a daughter, Kathy Barber and her husband, Jim, of Maggie Valley; one sister, Roseanne Tarro, of Benld, Illinois, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church with Father John Denny officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles Road, Canton, NC 28716. Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Waynesville is in charge of arrangements.
