Celia Griffin

"Loving Mama" Canton – Celia Elizabeth Holt Griffin, age 93, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at her residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Lou Ellen Knight Holt. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lee Griffin, who died in 2007; a grandson, David Griffin; a sister, Jesse Holt Ewart and two brothers, Floyd and James Holt. Celia was dedicated to her family, always placing them first in her life. She will be remembered as being selfless, kind and strong. She is survived by two daughters, Beatrice Griffin Hicks of Marion and Florence Griffin Gibson of Canton; two sons, Tommy Frank Griffin of Clyde and Robert Lee Griffin of Waynesville; brother, Ernest Robert Holt; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2016 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Philip Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Clyde. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
