Celia Medford

October 30, 1938 — October 20, 2016

Lake Junaluska, Celia Ann Smith Medford, age 77, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at The Homestead. A native of New Hanover County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late William Ramp and Virginia Dare Davis Smith. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Norma Reeves; seven brothers, William, Joseph, Tommy, Bobby, Burns, Ronnie, and Dr. Marion Smith. Celia was a member of Long's Chapel United Methodist Church and was very active in WMU. She worked as a secretary for Farm Bureau Insurance Company and was employed with First Union National Bank. Celia enjoyed time spent at church and with her family. She had such passion for visiting people and working tirelessly for others. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Glenn Brooks Medford, Sr.; two sons, Glenn Brooks Medford, Jr. and his wife, Maninet, of Garner, NC and William Jack Medford, of Euharlee, GA; one sister, Merle "Chook" Lea, of Hampstead, NC; two brothers, Carson Henry, and his wife, Pamela, of Hampstead, NC and Lorenzo Dow Smith, of Surf City, NC; eight grandchildren, Blake, Logan, Olivia, Ryan, Wesley and Riley Medford, Panalee Wirinphai and Milla Pimtida Medford. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Chris Westmoreland, Reverend John Feree and Reverend J. Timothy McConnell officiating. Burial will follow at Dawn Memory Garden. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Memorials may be made to Long's Chapel United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 459, Lake Junaluska, NC 28745.
