Charles Hannah

March 15, 1913 — August 1, 2009

Charles Bennett "Charlie" Hannah, age 96, died Saturday, August 1, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Hannah was a native of Haywood County and a son of the late Henry and Wille Green Hannah. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, having served on the USS Rogers in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. Charlie operated Medford Farm Service Station. He was a retired employee of American Enka Corporation and a life long farmer. Charlie was a member of First Baptist Church of Clyde where he was a former deacon. He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Hilda Stevenson Hannah; two daughters, Terry Smith and husband, John, of Canton and Charlene Dickert and husband, Earl of Pomaria, SC; five grandchildren, John A. Smith, Jr. and wife, Jessica, Lisa Stinnett, and Jason Smith, all of Clyde, Whitney Hill and husband, David, of Chapin, SC, and Justin Dickert of Pomaria, SC; four great-grandchildren, Jerod and Alexis Stinnett, and Alyssa and Alexandra Smith; one sister, Evelyn Smith of Clyde; and one brother, Joe of Candler. He was preceded in death by brothers, Fred, Bill, Andy, Virgil, Bob, Ralph, and Ben; and sisters, Faye Smith, Martha DeVore, and Carrie Rinehart. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Clyde with Reverend David Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be John Smith, Jr., Jason Smith, Justin Dickert, David Hill, Ray Warren, Cecil Stevenson, and Randy Ledford. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Clyde, P.O. Box 356, Clyde, NC 28721.
