Clyde-Charles Ray Best, age 57, died Thursday, September 16, 2004 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Howard and Frances Bishop. He was a 1966 graduate of Crabtree-Iron Duff High School. He was employed for more than 25 years at Champion International Paper Company and was an avid hunter. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Clark Best; a daughter, Amanda Mann and her husband, Scott, of Canton; a stepdaughter, Vivian Revis and her husband, Johnny, of Clyde; one son, Greg Best and his wife, Donna, of Clyde; one stepson, Max Trantham and his wife, Kim, of Bryson City; a sister, Joyce Best McCracken, and her husband, Troy of Clyde; four grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and five step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2004 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with Reverend Ronald Greene, Reverend Charlie Simpson, and Reverend Kitty Crain officiating. Burial will follow at Upper Crabtree Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home and at other times the family will be at the home of the son, Greg Best, 25 Miranda Drive, Clyde. Serving as pallbearers will be friends and family and honorary pallbearers will be Sammy Woods and Frank Poteat.
