Leicester- Charles David Brookshire, Jr. of Newfound Road, died peacefully Sunday, July 30, 2006 at his residence. He was a native of Buncombe County and a son of the late Charles David and Lillie Olive Hall. Mr. Brookshire was preceded in death by four sisters, Oma Owenby, Willie Rogers, Shirley Murphy and Edna Brookshire and two brothers, Lemuel and Haynes Brookshire. He retired from American Enka with 20 years of service. Mr. Brookshire was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and had served as Men's Sunday School teacher, choir director, Superintendent and Lay speaker. He was past president of the Newfound Community Club, served on the board of Directors of Quality Forward, president of the Buncombe County Council and was a United States Army veteran of World War II for a short term. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Violet Keener Brookshire; three daughters, Revonda Hall and her husband Ed, of Acworth, GA , Charlene Dover and her husband, Dan of Leicester, Debrea Silver and her husband, Gary of Asheville, and one sister, Genevieve Mehaffey, of Leicester; five grandchildren, Pam Kirkley and her husband, Mark, Brooke McKee and her husband, Ray, Trent Dover , Chad Silver and his wife Kami, Nicholas Silver and his wife, Alisha, and three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Jacob, and Cecilee Silver. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at Grace United Methodist Church with the Reverend John W. Clements and Reverend Ken Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of arrangements. The family would like to give a special thanks to Becky and Melanie of Mountain Area Hospice for their loving care and concern.
