Charles Raymond "Chili" Burnette, age 75, of Johnson Street, died Sunday, January 25, 2009 at John F. Keever Solace Center. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Thomas Garland and Mary Miller Burnette. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Burnette. In his younger years, Chili, by a newspaper reporter, was called the fastest running back on Canton High School's football team. He was a United States Marine veteran having served in Japan. He enjoyed playing golf and he had a passion for pets, especially his dog Heidi. Chili also enjoyed spending time with friends at the breakfast club at McDonalds. Chili retired from Champion International, but then continued to work for Blue Ridge which then became Evergreen Packaging. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Edith "Edie" Hutchins Burnette; one daughter, Alison Burnette Frazier and her husband, Ray Conrad Frazier, of Greenville, SC; one sister, Anna Jean Chambers and her husband, Harold, of Clyde; two grandchildren, Amanda Rae Rice of Charleston, SC and Ronnie Dale Rice of Greenville, SC; a brother-in-law, John Hutchins and his wife, Molly, of Richmond, VA; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Canton Central United Methodist Church with Reverend David Christy and Reverend Brett Morin officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Wells Funeral Home in Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Care Partners Hospice Memorial Fund, P.O.
