Clyde-We celebrate the full and joyful life of Charles Ray Carver, age 71, who passed away at home with his loving family around him on Thursday, December 30, 2010. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late John Gilmer Carver and Maggie McCracken Carver. He was preceded in death by three brothers, J.M., Mack and Donald and a sister, Helen. Charles retired from Champion International in 2001, with 32 years of service, and was an active member, and usher of Clyde Central United Methodist Church where he served as coordinator of Volunteers and Missions, visiting the Mississippi Delta six times and the N.C. Coast for hurricane rebuilding, and the local United Methodist Disaster Relief rebuilding local homes for five years after the flood of 2003. He was also past-president and member of the United Methodist Mens Club, member of the Finance Committee and Trustees, Lion's Club and served as a Boy Scout leader for many years. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy Garland Carver; one daughter, Jeannean Carver of Charlottesville, Virginia; one son, Charles R. Chuck Carver, Jr., and his wife, Misti Carver, of Canton, NC ; two grandchildren, Laurel Charles and Christopher Jones. Dear special friends included Tommy Stamey, Ken Stines, and Joe Lokerson, as well as his beloved Boston Terrier, Muffitt. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2011 in the fellowship hall of Clyde Central United Methodist Church in Clyde, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. in the church with the Reverend Randy Tingle, Reverend James Hart and Reverend Dr. J. Michael Leatherwood officiating. Burial will commence on Monday, at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Clyde Central United Methodist Church Discretionary Fund, P.O. Box 8, Clyde, NC 28721.
