Charles Creasman

January 17, 1930 — September 22, 2003

Waynesville-Charles Gerald ''Houg'' Creasman, age 73, of Brookside Court, died Monday, September 22, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Haywood County and was the son of the late Crawford Daniel "C. D." and Letha Burnette Creasman. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Edith Cagle, Mary Sue Hyatt, and Geneva Brooks; and by three brothers, Hubert, Earl, and Bill Creasman.

He was employed by Unaugusta in the finishing room as a furniture stripper for 26 years and for the Town of Waynesville treatment plant for 13 years. He was a member of the Holly Grove Free Will Baptist Church and served as a deacon. He was an Army veteran, field radio operator, having served during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Lee Whitner; four sons, Charles Ray Creasman and his wife, Kathleen, Daniel Lee Creasman and his wife, Tammy, Richard Dale Creasman, and Charles Gerald Creasman, Jr. and his wife, Wanda, all of Waynesville; seven sisters, Bonnie Burris, Ruth Gunter, and Dot Barnette, all of Waynesville, Betty Wiggins of Hendersonville, Wilma Thompson of Canton, Kathleen Patterson of New York, and Janice Hadlock of Georgia; one brother, Oak Creasman of Virginia; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2003 at the Holly Grove Free Will Baptist Church. The Reverend Jerry Nelson, Reverend Charles Joseph Creasman, and Reverend Ernest Messer will officiate. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.

The pallbearers will be Matthew and Darrell Inman, Shannon Creasman, Wendell Mull, Joe Bridges, Dean Brown, Mark Warlick, and Daniel Lee Creasman, Jr. The Honorary pallbearers will be Amos Stevenson, Sam Brown, Jack Warlick, Cedric Inman, Jigges Trantham, and Jerry Wood.

Memorials may be made to the Holly Grove Free Will Baptist Church Children's Fund, 1209 Allens Creek Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
