Charles Ford

May 22, 1928 — March 6, 2006

Charles William Ford, age 77, died Monday, March 6, 2006 at his residence after a very brief illness. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late Edward Theodore and Alma Audrey Putnam Ford. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Browning Ford to whom he was married for 55 years, who died in January 2005. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Carroll Ford. He retired from Champion International in 1989 where he was a foreman. He loved his grandchildren very much, of whom he thought of as his own children. He was an avid UNC Tarheels fan. He is survived by two daughters, Lynn Ford House and her husband, George of Canton and Doris Ann Ford Parkey and her husband, Harold of Candler; a sister, Joann Hoyle of Canton; a brother, Deroy Ford, and three grandchildren, Wendy Hannah and her husband, Travis, Jeffrey House and his wife, Misty, and Jennifer House. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2006 at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Matthew Pruett officiating. Burial will follow at Old Thickety Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in honor of Charles' nephew, Dennis Hoyle, to help with his expenses due to a terminal illness, c/o Joann Hoyle, 391 Terrell Cove Road, Canton, NC 28716.
