Waynesville-Charles Richard Haynes entered eternal life on June 11, 2003 after a period of declining health.
A native of Haywood County, he was the second of five children born to the late Fulmer and Eliza McGowan Haynes. He was also preceded in death by a son, David Lee Haynes; a sister, Loree Henson; and a brother, Gerald Edwin Haynes. After graduating from Old Clyde High School, he served his country in World War II and then worked briefly for Champion International. Most of his adult life, he worked alongside his wife in a poultry business and later a daycare. He was a member of Dellwood United Methodist Church and VFW Post 5202. He volunteered at the Open Door Kitchen for a time, and he truly enjoyed life, reading, and spreading cheer and candy peppermints freely wherever he went.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 54 years, Roberta Moody Haynes; his beloved daughter, Charleen Haynes Ballard; a sister, Joann Leonard, of Clyde; a brother, Harold Haynes, of Hazelwood; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
A memorial celebration will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2003 at Dellwood United Methodist Church followed by military rites conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. The family will receive friends after the services at the church.
A donation in his memory to the Haywood County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 932, Waynesville, NC 28786 or to one's favorite charity will serve as a welcome tribute.
We express kind appreciation to Haywood 911 response personnel for their patience and caring during our time of crisis; and, warmest gratitude for the kind and gentle care received at Park Ridge Hospital. Thank you all.
