Charles Hemphill

October 11, 1922 — July 8, 2003

Canton- Charles Ray Hemphill, age 80 died Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at the VA Medical Center.

He was the son of the late Lee Ray and Nina Snyder Hemphill. He was a member of Canton First Baptist Church and a member of the Matthews Sunday School Class. He was a member and Past Master of the Pigeon River Lodge #386 AF & AM and a fifty year member and Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star. He was also a Shriner. Mr. Hemphill was a United States Army Veteran of World War II in which he received a Purple Heart.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris Wood Hemphill; one daughter and her husband, Karol H. and Jerry L. Leatherwood of Statesville; one son and his wife, Charles R. Hemphill, Jr. and DiAnn of Charlotte; and two grandchildren, John Leatherwood and Kara Hemphill.

Graveside services will be 12:00 noon, Friday, July 11, 2003 at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Dr. Rick Gosnell officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
